Current News

The DCTA is has expanded its focus on junior tennis to include out-of-town high school students.  This area of junior tennis has become a concern to the DCTA because these students do not have a means of transportation to Greenville to take advantage of the numerious tennis programs.  So the DCTA is working on a plan to send a tennis pro to the out-of-town high schools for a 3 hour clinic once a week.  Right now, we are close to finalizing tennis clinics with North Pitt High School.  Anyone interested in supporting this program can e-mail us at dcta@downeastcta.org.

DCTA Wins Bid
We got it!  The Downeast Community Tennis Association (DCTA) has won the bid to host the Seniors Adult League State Championships for 2009-2010.  It was a year long process and took the cooperation of the Greenville Convention & Visitors Bureau (Andrew Schmidt) and area tennis clubs to win this bid.  The NC USTA was very impressed with the tennis facilities, convention center and what the city of Greenville had to offer.  The Senior Adult League State Championships will take place in early June and will be played at all area tennis courts.   This event will attract over 700 tennis players from around the state.  It will be a great opportunity for us to showcase our great city and our active tennis community.

Masters Tennis Tournament
The DCTA’s year end Masters tennis tournament is scheduled from November 15th -16th.  It will be held at Baywood Racquet Club.  The Masters is an invitation only tournament reserved for the top 6 singles players and doubles teams.  The format is each event will have two round robin brackets and the winner from each bracket will compete in the finals.  Player invitations are going out now.  The cost is $20 for the first event and $15 for the second event.  The cost includes lunch on Saturday and an opportunity to win a prize at a silent auction.

Lin Hignite Tennis Tournament
The DCTA is helping to organize the Lin Hignite Memorial tennis tournament at Baywood Racquet Club.  The tournament will be from November 21-23.   The tournament is in memory of Len Hignite who loved the sport of tennis and the opportunity to help others.  All the proceeds from this tournament will be donated to provide tennis lessons to kids with limited financial means.  The cost is $20 for the first event and $10 for the second event.  Click here to print an entry form.  The entry deadline is November 13th.
